At present the environmental impact of motor boats is negative. We at Valkama aim for having a positive impact on the environment. Every major change needs a catalyst to drive progress. We believe Valkama is the one in boating. There will be others that follow. And that’s good. Because the change for the better is what we want. 
 
The four corner stones of Valkama’s foundation of truly sustainable boating are:  
 

Sustainable boat = Materials used + Energy consumption + Refit + Recyclability
Valkama is an all-electric boat made of long lasting aluminum and components that allow for easy refit and eventually are 100% recyclable at the end of their long lifetime. All-electric boats produce no emissions.

Boat designed for all-electric use
There are motorboats and then there are electric boats. One must design a boat for electric propulsion to get the optimal energy consumption and operating efficiency. Excess weight and battery packs are not the way to go. 

Solar charging
With Valkama Haven your carbon footprint in boating is zero. Haven’s solar panels charge your boat when not in use with renewable, self-produced energy. Moreover, you may use same energy for your other electricity needs. 

Out of the water boat storage 
Valkama Haven enables dry storing your boat on the dock. There is no need for polluting hazardous chemicals to keep your boat clean. A clean hull drives faster and with less energy consumption.  

How much emissions can you 
reduce by using Valkama Boat?

A conventional motor boating produces emissions in three forms: pollution in the water, exhaust emissions in the air, as well as noise. With all-electric Valkama boat there is none of that. We revolutionize boating experience and its impact on the environment. Valkama produces zero exhaust emissions and runs silently pollution-free. This is great for the environment. And good for you too as you get to breathe fresh air instead of those fumes!
 
Of course, you must take into account the emissions caused by the production of the electricity used to charge your boat. Renewable electricity sources such as wind, solar and hydropower produce minimal carbon emissions. If you recharge your Valkama boat with the EU electricity mix, typically you save more than 2 metric tons of CO2 emissions during a typical season of 50 hours of boating. This saving equals to about 80 trees planted.  
 
Better yet, when you combine your Valkama ecosystem with Haven, a solar charging and storage station, your carbon footprint in boating becomes zero. This is due to boat charging being done with renewable, self-produced solar energy. Moreover, if you use this solar energy also for your other electricity needs your carbon footprint in boating can actually turn negative.  

What about the materials used and their recyclability?

Have you heard that there are already more plastics in the world seas than there are fish? A no more plastics policy is needed to save our oceans. Traditional boat manufacturing involves the use of plastics, hazardous chemicals, glass fiber, irreplaceable components, and low recyclability of the materials at the end of their lifecycle.
 

We have thought this over for you. Valkama is made of aluminum, allowing for 100% recyclability. All of the components are made with a long lifetime, replaceability, and full recyclability in mind. We use components made of 100% recyclable stainless steel and recycled materials. No plastics nor chemicals waste. Guaranteed sustainable boating.
